This year we have a vision for building power and that includes you.

It has been ten incredible years since the launch of the Safe Return Project and we are looking forward to the promise of a new decade that brings us closer to mass liberation, racial equity, and a more just world.

Since the beginning, the Safe Return Project has been envisioned as a Richmond-based participatory research and action initiative that would allow formerly incarcerated individuals to engage in research, organizing, and community advocacy on the issues directly impacting them.

To celebrate the positive impact we have had on the lives of thousands of formerly incarcerated individuals and their families, our accomplishments in policy and advocacy, the community we have built for ourselves, and this year’s graduating fellows, we will be hosting our 10-year anniversary celebration on April 23, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM PDT.

Join us for great music, local food and drink, and the chance to build community as we celebrate the empowerment of our fellows! I can think of no greater cause for celebration than the incredible personal transformations our fellows have developed within Richard Boyd Fellowship program! They really have done an incredible job - this is their day!

This is also an opportunity to come together to create our vision and set our intentions for the next decade. We want you to be a part of the process of creation!

Our vision for the next decade includes:

  • Fostering transformative narratives that build power across movements

  • Building political power through training, education

  • Empowering communities most impacted

  • Reimagining public safety to advance solutions that reduce violence and reinvest resources back into communities most impacted

“Leader” - $10,000

The Impact: A contribution at this level will lead our community into the next decade of success. We have challenges to face and obstacles to overcome, but leaders are not afraid of any of them. They march forward.

“Healer” - $5,000

The Impact: As a Healer, your contribution will help fund the program and light the path for fellows. It is so important that as a community we learn to care for each other. Richard Boyd was really good about being that light when times are dark. When a person couldn’t get out of their own darkness he was there to light a path toward healing. This is a contribution that honors that legacy.

“Advocate” - $2,500

The Impact: As an Advocate, you will directly benefit the program and its immediate needs and growth. This program is boldly on the frontier of challenging what the new era of leaders should and will be. With our community, there is always “extra” for us to do compared to others with privilege. This contribution is an acknowledgment of that injustice and an act of solidarity to stand by our future leaders and their right to leadership.

“Mentor” - $1,000

The Impact: As a Mentor you’ll help guide our fellows through new situations and periods of uncertainty. Your contribution will make sure our program continues to accumulate the wisdom that can be passed on to future generations.

  • 4 complimentary tickets (includes food and drink)

“Confidant” - $500

Richard Boyd Empowerment Fellowship

Safe Return Project created the Richard Boyd Empowerment Fellowship to honor the legacy of Richard Boyd. One of Richard's last wishes was for a comprehensive program that invests in the leadership and empowerment of people directly impacted by the criminal justice system, and gives them the tools to organize and create an impact in the community.
