In May 2024, Carolyn Bradford joined the Richard Boyd Fellowship, deepening her commitment to civic and community engagement. While completing the year-long fellowship she became actively involved in community work, collaborating with organizations including Rubicon and the California Black Power Network (CBPN) on civic and voter engagement efforts. She also completed the Collective Impact Institute program, further developing her skills in community leadership and collective action.
During her time as a fellow, she supported Safe Return Project’s She Ready event through tabling and community outreach. When She Ready returned in 2025, she took on an expanded role as a member of the planning committee, helping bring the event together and contributing to its success.
As a member of Rubicon’s Participatory Advisory Board (PAB), Carolyn provides feedback and contributes to conversations about how programs can better serve the community. Through PAB, she has helped shape program improvements and recently participated in the collaborative revision of Rubicon’s mission statement, ensuring that community voices are represented in the organization’s direction. Additionally, her work with the California Black Power Network has also grown from participating in voter engagement efforts to serving as Safe Return Project’s primary point of contact for CBPN. In this role, she works behind the scenes to recruit, prepare, and train team members carrying out voter engagement work.
Today, she serves as a Credible Messenger & Organizer with the Safe Return Project, where she continues to grow as a community leader. She remains actively involved in Safe Return Project’s LAT&X and Sister Circle Support Groups. She also mentors youth, helping them navigate challenging moments in their lives while using the skills she has gained to recognize trauma and triggers and support others through difficult experiences. She has had the opportunity to sit at tables with judges and other leaders, bringing her community perspective into important conversations and spaces where decisions are made.
She is excited to continue learning, growing, and giving back to the community that helped shape who she is today.
